Hello there!
I’ll probably be in Marseilles at the beginning of August and I’m going to stay for about 10 days. Could anyone recommend a decent hostel at a reasonabe price? Or does anybody know of any other type of lodging available (flat sharing or renting a room for 10-15 days)? Please help, I could help you with finding a place in my home town, Krakow (a wonderful historic city in the South of Poland). Hope to hear from someone. Take care! Monika from Poland.

Marseilles…..I personally don’t care for the city that much. If you look past the dirtyness, graffiti, and crime, its not that bad of a city. It does have a very nice history with some nice buildings, but there’s also a lot of slums. I just passed through and didnt stay overnight there, so I wouldnt know.
Monika, Have you tried the hotel search engine here on France.com? Just click on the blue and red visitfrance.travel at the top of the page and when you get to the home page, click on "Hotels" located right under the search window. You can then search by city so type in Marseilles and see what you get. I haven’t been there so can’t give any advice, but I do know the hotel reservation service on France.com is terrific because we’ve used it for years.
If you don’t find what you want, try the Logis de France hotel chain at http://www.logis-de-france.fr/uk/ and search by town name or on the little map. We’ve used them extensively too and they are reliable.
If your local library gets the British magazine "France," it had a very good article about Marseilles within the last year or so. Perhaps you could look for it and get some more ideas. I don’t think they have a web site yet but you could do a search and see.
Good luck.
