6 Comments On I'm Looking for a Cat Specific to the Region of France

Could you give us a little more information? Is this a domestic cat or a wild cat? Is it still around or is it extinct? Is is specific to a particular region of France or just France in general?
Have you tried Google or Ask Jeeves? . . . just suggestions.
I e-mailed a cat fanciers web site to see if they could help. If they give me an answer, I’ll post it here.
Good luck.

Cat Fanciers sent me an answer. Here is what they said . . . with a web link. BTW, I found them via National Geographic links. Hope this helps you. At least you have a cat and a web site. 8)
MY QUESTION: Someone asked on a forum if there is a cat unique to France. I can’t find the answer anyplace and neither can anyone else. Do you know or could you give us a web site that would have the information?
THEIR ANSWER: One of the native cats of France is the Chartreux. You can find information on it on this page –
Setven0621 and SalB: I’m not positive of what the breed was, but my wife and I saw a cat being walked on a leash at the very crowded Gare Part Dieu train station in Lyon. It was crowded and noisy and a number of folks had their dogs on leashes. None of this bothered the cat as it and its owner proceeded through the train station. It stopped only once to ponder a pidgeon that was walking around. It looked like a typical gray and black tabby but it was certainly a sight that we never saw before. Donerail

When we moved from Missouri to North Carolina years ago, we told our oldest daughter that if she wanted to take her cat along that the cat would have to learn to walk on a leash for the trip.
Very quickly kitty was happily walking on his very own home made blue denim leash and behaving much better than our neighbor’s well trained dog.
Cats need motivation . . . a tidbit of turkey (or perhaps pigeon) helps!

SalB: Both of our cats are indoor cats and are trained to the leash for walks. They would never be able to hack it at a noisy train station, however. Donerail

Our cat wouldn’t have coped well with all the noise either. He would have climbed up someone’s leg.
We saw a lady in a museum once (Sisteron, the Citadelle) who was carrying her cat in a sling. It was our first trip to France and I was amazed that you could take a cat into a museum. It was hot and we had just climbed to the top of the Citadelle and I was in the museum drinking a coke right by an exhibit too. That was also pretty shocking. They seem to be a little more relaxed about food and animals than we are.

Another great web site for unusual questions is Fact Monster at http://www.factmonster.com/
