valeriesue: Bonjour! We just stayed (again, for the fourth time) at the Hotel de Colbert in the 5er or Latin Quartier on the small Rue de Colbert. For some reason, you don’t see it in a lot of the publications but it is a 4 star "boutique" hotel run by the Sol Melia group. It is about 300 yards from Notre Dame in one direction and 200 yards from St. Severin and Cluny and Blvd St. Germain de Pres in the other. Two metro stations, the RER (Station St. Michel to and from the airport) and the Battobus nearby and restaurants galore. It is a bit pricey (200 euros a night) but everything about it is first class. It only has about 40 rooms and if you can get room 48 you would have a direct view of the rose window of Notre Dame. Another recommendation would be the Lord Byron which is on the Rue Chatteaubriand close by the Arch de Triomphe. It is more reasonable price-wise at about 100 euros. If you haven’t been there before, you will love it. Hopefully the exchange rate improves between now and then. Donerail
Hi and welcome. We stay at the Hotel Clement in the 6th and lately at the Hotel de la Sorbonne in the 5th. Both are much less expensive than the previous suggestions.
One of the neat things about this web site is the hotel search feature. Find the blue and red word France.com above on the left and click on it. Then do a hotel search. You will find a wide selection of hotels (Paris and/or France generally). You can click on the hotel name and get a picture of the hotel and a typical room, prices and reviews. The review are written by people who have stayed there and are sometimes brutally honest. It’s a great resource. We have booked nearly all our hotels on this web site . . . actually all of them in Paris. Outside Paris we often use Logis de France because we are familiar with them.
It’s a great resource and sometimes it’s just fun to look and reminisce about Paris. You can also go to the web site http://photos.pagesjaunes.fr/ and type in any street address in Paris and get an actual photograph of the building. Then you can click on little arrows underneath and see photos up and down the street and the buildings on either side. It gives you a good feel for the neighborhood.
Have fun.
