Unlike the Alps to the east or the Pyrénées to the southwest, its highest peaks reach only 6,000 feet above sea level and are free of snow in summer. The local authorities? efforts to safeguard the environment have made Auvergne one of the last protected zones in Europe.
Before going to Auvergne, familiarize yourself with its history and its gastronomy.

France Telecom SA’s phone directories unit, Pages Jaunes, said Tuesday it will go ahead with one of the largest initial public offerings seen in Paris in two years despite difficult market conditions.
The plan to float Pages Jaunes – “Yellow Pages” in French – values the company at between 3.6 billion euros and 4.2 billion euros ($4.4 billion to $5.1 billion).
“I still believe the underlying value of Pages Jaunes is largely over 4 billion euros,” said Michel Combes, France Telecom’s CFO and chairman of the Pages Jaunes supervisory board.

The man who once dubbed himself J6M — “Jean Marie-Messier, me myself master of the world” — and transformed a dowdy water utility into a media empire at a cost of $50 billion, turned himself over to police on Monday as they carry out an insider trading probe.
Messier was set to spend a second night in a fraud squad cell on Tuesday, a far cry from the $18 million New York loft he lived in as Vivendi chief.

If you’re a French English-speaking person and you can 1) tolerate my English and 2) tolerate speaking it around me, I’d love to meet you, too. I barely know any French, but I am eager to learn and currently taking classes to learn this fine language. And around me, you’re instantly an expert on everything. That can’t be so bad. Does anyone have any advice for someone who would prefer not to drive, and would therefore take the train to get from place to place withing France. Wed like to check out Reims, Bordeaux, Beaune, Dijon, Lyon, Avignon, and perhaps more. The plan is to basically book a hotel for the first few nights in Paris then play it by ear.
Does anyone have any advice for us? Any areas of particular interest for honeymooners? Does anyone know of a good but inexpensive hotel in Paris that is romantic?
I appreciate any advice anyone may be willing to offer.
Mark

I am traveling to Paris next week for a study abroad program. I will be taking two classes which will occupy my time Mon-Weds during the day.
