French journalists freed in Iraq

The French foreign ministry confirmed an Arabic TV
report that the two men had been set free and said they would return to
France on Wednesday.

They were abducted while driving to the city of Najaf and appeared on a video released in October by their captors.

Their captors said they had been freed because of France’s anti-war stance.

French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier is leaving Paris to bring them back.

President Jacques Chirac has announced he is cutting
short a holiday in Morocco to greet the two men on their return to
France, the French news agency AFP reports.

I found some thing that is intreeging.I wanted to share it with you all.Please know this dos not reflect my personal beleves or reflect my feelings a bout france or eroupe.Just some thing i found and wanted to get your take on this and your opionons.

Of late, news has been trickling out of France which suggests that President Chirac has taken his opposition to the U.S. to a new level. One example includes allowing the pro-Ba’th pro-Saddam group "La Resistance" to operate out of Paris. The group’s main goal is to support killing U.S. troops in Iraq.

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300o C. The Russians used a pencil.

Freak storms kill six in France

Tens of thousands of homes have been left without electricity.

The storm hit Paris without warning and lasted only a few minutes, but caused havoc there and across the north.

The storm caused delays at airports in Paris and brought some train services to a halt. The Eiffel Tower, parks and other outdoor facilities were closed.

The gusts of up to 130 km/h (80 mph) prompted the French national weather service, Meteo France, to issue its second-highest alert and warning against people using their cars, says the AFP news agency.

France shows off tallest bridge

The Millau bridge over the River Tarn in the Massif Central mountains is more than 300m (984ft) high – taller even than the country’s Eiffel Tower.

The bridge, which opens to traffic on Thursday, was built to clear summer traffic jams around the town.

The BBC’s Paris correspondent, Caroline Wyatt, says the bridge is one of the most breathtaking ever built.

She says that with its concrete and steel pillars soaring high above the morning fog in the Tarn Valley, the construction makes a spectacular sight.

‘Delicacy of a butterfly’

Seven slender piers support the roadway, rising into seven graceful pylons bound to the bridge with what look like cobwebs of steel, our correspondent says.

GW's reaction to Arafat's death

I don’t know what coverage the US News and Press gave Mr. Bush’s reaction to Arafat’s death, but news programs in Europe showed that film from when Mr. Bush was first told about it (at a new conference) and showed it many times. Reporter: "Mr. Bush, Arafat is dead". Response from Mr. Bush "Good". Unfortunately that sort of comment sends a very clear indication as to the sort of person the US has a president.

Mr. Bush seems to have no concern about what the world (outside the US) thinks of him. The rest of the world is of secondary importance. I think it a naive view as Americas prosperity is dependant on the rest of the world and vice versa.

Travel in France

I intend visiting friends in France but they live at opposite ends so can anyone tell me how best to travel ie: Fly or rail and which routes I should take. First I will be at Bouzonville in north east of France then Ormes in south west near Bordeaux.
