My husband and I are planning to spend 2 nights in Caen. We will be seeing the Normandy beaches (with a tour) on one of the two days. The only other definite thing we plan to do is see the Caen peace museum/memorial on the alternate day. I understand that the museum is on the edge of town. So my question is, would it make more sense to stay in the city center or to stay near the museum? It seems there are several options in the 30 euro/double range in either place. We are traveling by rail and will not have a car.
Thank you for your advice!

If you don’t have a car, it might be easiest to stay near the train station. They are usually near the center of town. That way you wouldn’t have to drag your luggage all over town and in the evenings you would be in town and have a wide choice of restaurants and activities.
Just a suggestion.
ftdavis: Caen is a fairly large town. From what I have read – as I have not been to Caen yet – (although I might stay there in November) – you want to stay in the city as SalB says. Apparently we also have to see the Abbaye aux Hommes and the Abbaye aux Femmes. And William and Matilda. All about a thousand years old. Maybe crc95 or ManuNice can add to this. Donerail
Thank you both for your advice! We’ll look for a hotel in the city center.
