Tours (pronounced "Tuurh") is an important French city (population 140,000, 360,000 with the suburbs) located on the river Loire in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Touraine, the region around Tours, is renowned for its wines and for the perfection of its local spoken French.
Nîmesis a city with about 137,000 citizens in the Departement Gard. It has a stunning Roman Coliseum that is second only to Rome's. There are a few other fine Roman relics and Diana's Palace.
Amiens is the capital of the northern French region of Picardie. As well as its own attractions, the city makes a practical base from which to explore the area of the First World War's Western Front located nearby.
