Hello to everyone, I love the movies and music as well. In Sur Mes Livres, there are several great songs and I’d like to obtain a CD of the movie soundtrack if one is available. Here in the USA, I have been unable to find it. Can anyone help?

Do you mean Sur mes lèvres ? There doesn’t seem to be a soundtrack. But the movie itself is available on DVD (zone 2 – beware) and video (PAL SECAM – beware again). Try amazon.fr .

crc95: You are starting to worry me. Donerail
what the ….???

I’m not sure why crc95 is worrying donerail but david4677, crc95’s warnings are valid. Often foreign DVD’s will not work in US DVD players. They used to make a cross platform DVD that would work in all zones, but for some reason they stopped making these. So if you order a French DVD check very carefully to see if it will play in the correct zone for your player. Most players can have their zone changed but there is nearly always a limit as to how many times you can change the zone before it stays permantently in the current zone. We’ve chosen not to change ours and so have a couple DVD’s that we can’t watch.
Good luck.
david4677: You can go to http://www.archambault.ca It is a French Canadian music company with stores throughout the Quebec province. They also sell online. Their French music/dvd is coded to work in North America and they have all kinds of French/Quebec things as well as American music/DVD. The English link is on the top right hand corner of the main page. I just looked up Sur Mes Levres and archambault has the DVD. Rest assured, it will run on American DVD players. If you know the song titles you’re interested in, you can always boot up Kazzaa or some other mp3finder and search for them
SalB: I only buy CD in Europe. http://www.archambault.ca is the best source for European DVD that are made for American systems
I forgot to add (hence the editing feature on this post): prices at http://www.archambault.ca are in CANADIAN DOLLARS…right now the exchange rate is $1 USD = $1.25 Canadian Dollar…and archambault does take credit cards and they do send to the USA.
LaVieilleBranche, What a neat web site. Thank you so much.
SalB:
Archambault is all over Quebec privince in the malls and on rue St. Jean in downtown Quebec City. You can buy everything from Metallica to Edith Piaf to Quebec traditional folk music and they let you listen to some of the CD before you buy it so you’re comfortable with your purchase. The Quebecois are very proud of their French heritage and they all love French music. They have a huge assortment of traditional French singers such as Piaf, Trenet, etc…as well as their own Quebecois music. Their "Anglophone" music section isn’t so well stocked
I got my Garou CDs here in Quebec City and they weren’t available at all in the NYC region.
BTW, if you want good coffee Van Houtte in Quebec is the way to go. I don’t know if you can order their coffee online, but their mocha java is wonderful.
If anybody is going to Quebec City, other than donerail, let me know and I’ll email you on where to get the best French/Quebecois merchandise and the best prices. I’m guessing that France and Quebec have some sort of trade agreement because "Made in France" is priced fairly in Quebec province, unlike NYC, where the prices for "Made in France" are sky high.
LVB, you can get all the French CDs and stuff through Amazon, and staying home. I think if the Québécois are really proud of their French heritage, well maybe they should just … start speaking French ! LOL

crc: I CAN stay home, with a nice vin chaud aux epices while ordering through http://www.archambault.ca The Quebecois DO speak French. It’s the French who are translating everything literally from English into French. You want to remember the traditional way of speaking French, listen to a Quebecois
crc95, They do speak French in Quebec. When I was a child (many many years ago), there was a French separatist movement in Quebec that became quite violent. We heard about mailbox bombings and things that today we associate with Iraq only they were taking place in Quebec. Fortunately, although there are still plenty of separatists, they are no longer bombing things in conjuction with their efforts.
I’m not sure about this but I think Canada has two official languages, English and French. We have several Canadian friends and they and their children are completely bilingual.
ok, what I meant is that the two languages have drifted apart so much that most of us can’t understand Québécois when they speak — at regular speech speed that is. My mom was there last september, she told me she’d try to listen to conversations on the streets or in restaurant, but could hardly understand the topic. I remember having the same issues with a couple of very nice Québécwa young guys who were doing the vendanges in Beaujolais with me. And now, whenever they interview some Québécois on French TV, they have to show subtitles.
Kinda like if you people tried to converse with two regular guys in a Manchester pub. I bet that’d be really hard, wouldn’t it ?

It’s funny you should mention it. We were in London recently and had more of a language problem than we do in France. The English simply don’t speak the same English we speak. I can understand Prince Charles when he makes a speech, but the average guy on the street is just not intelligible!
I think we need subtitles here when southerners are interviewed on tv. We were in a restaurant in North Carolina once and absolutely could not understand the cute little red-headed waitress who was presumably speaking our very own language. What a revelation!
aaahhhh suthern speech … I could just listen to it for hours !
Aftah only a few short days in the Sowth, ah’ll bet thet yawl have discovahed thet occazunly folks down heah don’t always say exactly whut they mean ! Noa this iz done on purpose ! Fur example: If someone wants te borrah muney, one duz not jist answer, No! … thet wud be extremely unrefined ! One wud say sump’n like, "Ah’ll give yuh the nex dime Ah see rollin’ up the hill!" … if yawl iz discussin’ an illegitimate chile, yuh natchahly don’t blab out illegitimate & you merely says thet the chile wuz born on the wrong side uv the blanket ! Ah think yuh will agree thet this iz a much nicah way uv puttin’ it rathah than tellin’ it like it iz.

crc95, You are a southerner!! My favorite was, "Hey" to which everyone responded, "Fine, thank you." I also had a friend who would say, "I carried Betsy out to dinner last night" meaning he took his wife out to dinner. I often tried to picture him actually carrying her!
crc95: You have the South pretty well defined. Like Texas – of The Chimp, one of the few States where you can still drink and drive. Well, I presume you are all excited that the CD "Tessie" by Dropkick Murphy is being released on August 1st. Donerail
ok y’all..ya want music? go download kazzaa lite, however, if you have to pay for it now, then go on IRC, into a hackbot and you should be able to get the free version someplace. Install it, but delete the adware. Go into preferences and turn OFF the fileshare, so NOBODY can download from YOU. This way you can search for sur les levres and anything else you want, and nobody will see you, except the exact person you’re leeching from.
