How weird it is that some Americans have "deeply" fallen in love with France (I’m french) and some others got mentally sick: http://www.stuffucanuse.com/swiss/french.htm
I took it with humour but I don’t get his purpose… why can the French make you feel love and hatred towards them ??? Should we be proud of that ? What does it mean ??
Please, light my lantern!! (éclairer la lanterne de quelqu’un: to explain someting to someone)
Comment On How bizarre…
It’s called a "love-hate relationship" . . . sort of how I feel about my computer occasionally. It’s not doing what it is supposed to and I’m angry. However, I can’t live without the stupid computer so I love it and I hate it at the same time.
I think when Americans get lumped into "one" large group there are some who love France and others who hate France. Obviously, these are different people, but it doesn’t always seem that way when you start referring to large groups of people as a singular entity.
There is also the pretty normal, "I like some things you do but I hate other things you do." Again, obviously, some people will list certain things in one category and other people in a different category.
I guess I should read your link before replying but I’m always leary of web links so don’t usually open one unless I know where I’m going.
I wouldn’t say I have a love affair with the French but my husband and I love to visit France as often as possible and we really like the culture and the scenery. There are many things in France that we simply don’t have here at home and these are things we, personally, treasure.
Hope this answers a little of your question.
