I was just thinking about it and suddenly I started to wonder: What is the French population of the United States? From being on this website it seems that there are more than I expected, but because of my location (Las Vegas, Nevada) I have never actually encountered any French-Americans before. I'll do my research, but if anyone knows it, please tell me. Thanks!

I am a French Canadian. I don;t know what the percentage of French would be in the US but there are two things I can speak to. French Canadians living in the Eastern part of Canada, then called Acadia, were expulsed from their land and were sent all over the US, as well as south america. The state where there was a biggest concentration of these French people landed in Louisiana. To this day, their desecendants are there and are often referred to as Cajuns. Although they don't speak a good French, many still know the language and use it among themselves. Other French Canadians, in the early 19oo's left the country to go and find work in the US, mainly in Massachusets, Maine and Vermont. Those three states are the closest to Canada in proximity. Recently I saw a program where these people were being interveiwed. While they have maintained their language and culture in great part amongst the older people, the younger ones are getting more and more assimilated. So, Canada is a Official Bilingual Country having English and French as Official languages. The States is, to an extent, a bilingual country as well, although perhaps not legally, but two languages are recognized as being most used and that is English of course, and Spanish. Voila………….!Greetings to people from Nevada, Texas and all those nice warm places. Ciao
