Château d’Aulteribe
- Monument
Aulteribe is a fortified house overlooking a gully and its wild vegetation. The towers adjoining it date back to the 14th and 15th centuries.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was restored according to the romantic taste prevailing at the time and fitted out to house the precious collections of its successive owners, the composer Lord George Onslow, followed by the family of Pierre de Bernis.
In 1954, Aulteribe is bequeathed by the marquis to the national fund for monuments and sites which is in charge of its preservation through the Onslow-de Pierre Foundation. The castle gathers an exceptional set of ancient furniture and works of art (paintings by Annibal Carrache, Rigaud, Philippe de Champaigne, Hubert Robert, tapestries from Teniers, etc.).
