Chirac, Raffarin Drop Again In France

Jacques Chirac continues to lose public support in France, according to a poll by Ifop published in Le Journal du Dimanche. 41 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the president’s performance, a two per cent drop since September.

Chirac won the presidential election in 1995, and was re-elected in a run-off over Jean-Marie Le Pen on May 5, 2002. The head of state’s popularity increased in late 2002 and early 2003 due to his vocal opposition to armed conflict in Iraq without an explicit mandate from the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

After being served up defeat I want to tell the French. Keep doing what you are doing. America is shifting conservative greater than I would have ever thought and the world will need as many moderate voices as it can get with the US pushing its conservative agenda.

I do have one small comment though on the "hate" side. Thanks for nothing when it came to your Presidents support for Kerry, it could have been the deciding factor, but who knows.

God help us all.

This is a sad day for me, a sad thay for Human kind, a sad day for our planet, and unfortunatly, I think american people will realize their mistake way too late, off course I hope not, but i’m quiet sure that the consequence of this present day will be catastrophic for the futur generation, and as a futur dad (next may) I am really scared for my children now.

53% of the american people where a huge disapointment to me today.

I’m a french student in Public law looking for english speaking penpals. I’m not that bad in english but i just would like to keep on improving it.

I’m a 20 years old student (third year) and will specialize in international penal law. This summer Iwas an intern at the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations in Vienna, Austria. I will maybe go to Russia next year to work on terrorism topics in eastern europe. I fon of classical music, arts, history, martial arts ( my father was a philosophy teacher and a Aïkido teacher, I practice myself Judo, French boxing/savate and jiu Jitsu), foreign languages and foreign cultures…

Arafat to Be Flown for Treatment in France

RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) – Seriously ailing Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat agreed on Thursday to be rushed to a French hospital as fears grew for the icon of the struggle for a Palestinian state.

Aides said Palestinian, Tunisian, Jordanian and Egyptian physicians had advised that Arafat, 75, had to be taken abroad, moving him from the West Bank compound where he has been penned by Israel forces for over 2-1/2 years.

France had accepted a request for treatment, a presidential spokeswoman said. Jordanian helicopters would carry Arafat to Jordan early on Friday and from there he would be brought to Paris aboard a French jet, Arafat aides said.

France mulls cure to wine sector's hangover

France’s beleaguered wine industry is giving the government a headache.

Paris is torn between promoting public health and supporting French wine, which has been hit hard by competition from “New World” rivals such as Australia and South Africa and become less fashionable at home.

Less than a week after deputies from the National Assembly lower house proposed wine adverts should be more colourful to boost sales, senators from the upper house say they want bottles to have labels warning pregnant women of the dangers of alcohol.

Opposition Socialist deputy Jean-Marie Le Guen said the conservative government’s policies were incoherent.
