The 72-year-old will remain at the Val de Grace military hospital in the capital Paris for about a week.
The hospital said the president was being treated for “a minor vascular incident” that had slightly affected his eyesight.
Mr Chirac’s office said all presidential engagements had been cancelled for the coming week.
“The president of the republic was hospitalised last night at the Val de Grace hospital for a minor vascular incident that led to a slight vision disorder, which should be over within a few days,” the military hospital said in a statement.

Why did you do so?
I remember sometimes that some highly colored character have vomited their hate against France in those threads ( like that kfowler ), and you’ve let them write what they have wanted. Some French have not liked that and choosed to go away of your website ( ManuNice ), some american too weren’t liking it ( the sweet Myfarside and the great Crazyhorse ). Hi, my friend and I (both 27 yr. old females) are going to Paris Sept. 30th-Oct. 10th and I need some recommendations on where to stay on a budget… Any help would be appreciated, there are so many hostels and hotels to choose from, which would be a better deal? I know Hostels are about 20-30/night per person and include some sort of breakfast, and some hotels are 60-70/night.
