A reporter for the French newspaper Liberation has gone missing in Iraq along with her Iraqi assistant.
“We have had no news from Florence Aubenas in over 24 hours”, the Paris-based daily said.
It said that Ms Aubenas and her assistant, Hussein Hanoun Al-Saadi, were last seen leaving their Baghdad hotel early on Wednesday.
Two French journalists were released last month after being held hostage by Iraqi militants for four months.
Do the french test primary and elementary age children with a standardized test each year to assess their progress similar to the California state tests or the State of Tennessee Terre Nova tests?
When I joined this forum it appeared that there was lively and sensible debate and discussion. Different opinions which is great as it is through debating different opinions that we can develop our own opinions.
However, recently there seems to have been some rather less constructive debate. People taking needless offence. When I receive comments like so go away with your opinions on how we do things…unless you want Britain want your a– kicked again I realise how many US people really are (plus other not dissimilar comments). (I do not take offence at this comment).
I’m afraid that this forum to a degree has re-enforced the US stereotype prevalent in Europe (certainly the UK).
Foreign Minister Michel Barnier said Monday that France was ready to streamline procedures to facilitate adoption of orphans of the devastating waves that stuck countries around the Indian Ocean.
“While the countries affected maintain their prerogatives, we could put into place a special mechanism under my ministry which is charged with international adoption,” Barnier said on the TF1 private television station.
I want to visit some city in centre france. But i don´t know which one

Some on this forum keep leaping to the support of a Mr. George Bush (President, Commander-in-Chief, all round "good-guy". Presumably to show his educational level and feelings towards the French a famous quote of his (that may not have been reported on by pro-Bush press in the US) is:
"The trouble with the French is that they have no word for Entrepreneur". This was a dead serious statement he made (i.e. not a joke).
I found the following in the NY Times. I knew much of it, but here is a nice summary of why there is terrorism in the world and why what we are doing will not work. So many Americans think we spend an inordinate amount on foreign aid without out looking at what and where. We spend it where we think we will gain the most from it. That’s not charity. Spending it where it is most needed is charity. It also elucidates promises broken.
It’s a very interesting article.
The French foreign ministry confirmed an Arabic TV
report that the two men had been set free and said they would return to
France on Wednesday.
They were abducted while driving to the city of Najaf and appeared on a video released in October by their captors.
Their captors said they had been freed because of France’s anti-war stance.
French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier is leaving Paris to bring them back.
President Jacques Chirac has announced he is cutting
short a holiday in Morocco to greet the two men on their return to
France, the French news agency AFP reports.
