Nord Pas-de-Calais: A Brief History

Initially the territory of the Belgae, a Celto-Germanic tribe, Northern France was subsequently conquered by the Romans. In 55 BC, Julius Caesar set sail to conquer England from Cap Blanc-Nez, a chalk and clay cliff that plunges 440 feet into the waves south of Calais. After the 5th-century defeat of the Romans, the region was incorporated into Neustria, one of the three territories that then made up France.

Slightly smaller than Connecticut (the region covers 4,800 square miles), Nord-Pas de Calais is bounded on the west by 85 miles of coastline that serve as a gateway to the U.K. and the North Sea. To the north lies Belgium, to the south the Picardy region and to the east the Ardenne plateau. Home to 3.97 million people, it takes its name from the two départements that define its territory: Nord and Pas de Calais.

Korea is showing the world a welcoming foreigner-friendly face to the thousands of visitors attending the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup games. But the face that the Korean government isn’t showing is its unfair treatment of an estimated 300,000 migrant workers living and working here. Migrant workers – commonly referred to as 3D workers as the work they do is dirty, dangerous, and demeaning – comprise close to 80% of all foreign workers in Korea.

Fearing deportation, in many cases they are forced to endure dire human rights abuses. On average paying brokers $6000-$8,000 U.S.

I am going to spend my holiday in France / I need some information

Hi! My name is Zsolt.I live in Budapest, Hungary. I have been learning French for two month and I am getting more and more interested in French culture and music (esp.Noir Désir), too.
