Poitiers is the capital city of the Poitou-Charentes region of central France. It is a pleasant, relatively small city of around 85,000 inhabitants that has strong medieval roots. It is situated on the Clain river.

Thanks to its international film festival, Cannes is known throughout the world. Indeed to many people it is the festival that makes Cannes synonymous with glitz and glamour. However, in addition to the film festival Cannes is host of a numerous shows, trade fairs and exhibitions throughout the year.

Orleans (French, Orléans) is the capital of the Centre-Val de Loire region of north-central France, located some 120 km (75 miles) south-west of the French capital Paris.

Pau is a city in Pyrénées-Atlantiques. The town was fortified in the 11th century, and the château de Pau was the birth place of Henri IV of France. Pau has a population of around 85,000.

By train

There is a train station very near the centre. Outside, there is a "feniculaire", which will carry you and your luggage to the main area, which is higher then the station. Trains come and go from the destinations you would expect, Paris, Bordeaux, Bayonne, etc.

Angers is a medium sized French city which is the capital of the Maine-et-LoirePays de la Loire. It offers the traveller a mixture of an typical French night-life, historically rich street-scapes & great shopping opportunities.

Grenoble

Nantes is the capital of the north-western French region of Pays de la Loire. It has strong historical connections with the adjoining region of Brittany, and is the historical capital of the region (though not its official capital since the days of Napoleon).

Nancy is a city in the Lorraine region of (eastern) France.

Major train lines include:

• Paris – Nancy : 2h40 (1h30 by TGV)
• Strasbourg – Nancy : 1h15
• Dijon – Nancy : 2h30

The TGV is scheduled to arrive in June 2007, decreasing these times significantly (if you're willing to pay the higher price).
