What is your favorite French hotel?

I just clicked on a site that "popped up" above and it was from an outfit that rents out about six cottages. These are located in the Loire, Dordogne, and Provence. They look kind of nice and are rented by the week for $1,380 per week regardless of the cottage, regardless of the week. ($200 per week more for each person beyond 3.) Ever hear anything about them? The towns are Uzes, Chinon, and Mansuyier (sic). The testimonials seemed positive. Donerail

Do you mean the "French Cottages" in the banner above? I clicked on it and you’re right. The rentals look lovely. I’ve always recommended the Gites de France which are apartments and houses all over France although the gites tend to be in rural areas rather than in town. They have a wide range of price and many are much less expensive than the Cottages above, but the less expensive they are, the more spartan they are. I guess it’s the old "You get what you pay for" syndrome.

At any rate, these look really nice and have the convenience of being in town. I didn’t look at all of them, but the ones I saw had an English speaking person available too. That’s a big plus for many people and the gites don’t always have that.

We’re willing to go a lot more spartan than these cottages to save money and stay longer, but many people would be delighted to pay the extra for such a nice place, especially if they only have a two week vacation.

I wonder if anyone here has ever rented one. It would be interesting to hear how they compare to the advertisements.

SalB: They seem to be popular. I checked out their rental schedule and they seem to be pretty much booked up thru early 2005. I was wondering if anyone had any personal experiences with them. It is a little pricey but what is interesting is the rate is the same no matter when or where you go. I always get a warm feeling with testimonials. Donerail
