Thanks so much! We’re staying at La Manufacture, which doesn’t have a restaurant, and we just wanted to be sure we could find something if necessary. We realize there’s not much happening right around there, but that’s fine since we don’t plan to spend much time in our room!

You’ll be fine. It’s a nice enough area. There is a Metro station at Pl. d’Italie that will take you all over town. We stayed in the Hotel Veronese on our very first trip to Paris. Get a carnet of Metro tickets each and you will be all over town.
It would be easy enough to eat downtown and take the Metro back to your hotel. BTW, I’ve read good reviews of the hotel. Let us all know what you think of it when you get back.
There are also grocery stores in the area if you like picnics. When are you going?

We loved the Hotel Veronese. It is a great plce to stay. You can walk easily to the Latin Quarter. We found the bakeries and little cafes very welcoming – even to our gang of teenagers.

This isn’t an area known for restaurants. If you’re looking for "fine" dining, you might want to walk closer into the center of town. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for a good meal, there are lots of restaurants in that area. Just walk along until you see one with lots of people in it. If it’s full, it’s probably pretty good. There’s a perfectly pleasant little café on the corner of ave. des Gobelins and rue Coypel (or rue Veronese). The streets come to a little V there and I’m not sure which street is the official one. The café actually opens onto ave. des Gobelins a couple blocks from Pl. d’Italie.
