Australian man looking for a french penpal

Hi,

Just came back from 4 weeks in Australia. It was a lot of fun; I did not understand everything; my english is probably more american than Aussie!

Qu’est ce que tu veux savoir de la France? (What do you want to know about France?)

A few words about me, I am French, born in Britany (not UK, but the western part of France) and live in Lyon (2nd largest Frenceh city or 3rd depending to whom you talk to) but anyway this is southern part of France.

I love traveling, reading, trekking etc;

4 weeks in Australia, not long enough right, Australia’s a great place and you really need to spend a lot more time than that to really capture the essence of this country. There’s more to Australia’s than the Sydney Opera house and the Great Barrier Reef.

OK, here we go. My name is Paul, I live in Melbourne which I think and many think is a greater city than Sydney or Brisbane. I don’t know if you came down my way, if you did, what did you think?

I too also like to travel, I spent about 5 months in America which was OK. I like to read and write poems and short stories, something I do in my spare time. You might think I’m lying about the poetry but it’s really what I do when I want to escape reality if you know what I mean. I like sports, any kind of sports.

My desire to go to France and stay there for as long as I can goes back to my second oldest brother. He lived there for years and when he came back, he just couldn’t stop talking about his experience there and the people and scenery. That’s where my brother met his wife. My sister in law comes from ‘Leman’ and she’s the one that is really encouraging me to follow my dream and go to france.

What’s keeping me from being there right now, MONEY i guess. I’m just trying to save as much money as possible so I can survive there for as long as I can. I’m working now and saving some cash and I think i’ll be there pretty soon.

I think that’s enough for now, you are probably bored of me now.

Where to go in Lyon
1- in the old part take good shoes and go up to Fourviere through the old stairs.
2- Rue de la Juiverie there is a restaurant in a wonderfull place try to find it. Never ate there but I always go to show the place
3- If you believe friends of mine (old Lyonnais) LA croix rousse is the part you should not miss
4- Just walk around December 8th you will love it (except if you want to be alone then choose another day!)

Hi Paul,

I stayed 4 weeks because it has something to do with something call job and hollidays. My boss disagreed to let me go more than 4 weeks!! She can not live without me I assume.

I was in Melbourne because my best friend lived there 4 years. He was supposed to leave Australia in 2004 as I had promised him to come and see him at least once. I decided to do it in December 2003. Guess what? 3 weeks before I left he called to tell me that he get divorced and he was coming back to France. So I saw him but in France!!

This was my first impression of Melbourne. I am not so fond of cities and I assume living in Europe make me a little bit spoiled. I must admit I found Sydney more beautiful but I am not an expert.

I loved Uluru, the outback, the great ocean road, the great barrier reef. What I prefer in Australia was really the nature, never seen so amazing trees and kangoros for me are very exotics. Remember I am European.

So you love poetry, I must admit it sounds like "what should I say to attract girls???" No offense Paul, but if you look for a Virginie, we may stop it right now.

If it not the case than I am an avid reader but poetry is not on my agenda. Speaking of books I bought in Australia a book called "my Place" and I found it very good. Did you read it?

Where do you want to stay in France, whatr do you want to do?
