Hello,
Is Paris generally the least expensive city in France to fly into coming from the U.S.? I imagine it recieves the greatest volume of international flights. What are some other French cities with major international airports?
The reason I ask is that I will be traveling to France in June but I don’t have a preference as to which city I arrive in. So far I’ve only looked at flights into Paris, just wondering if any other city offers competitive rates.
Thanks!

akeegan: I believe the vast majority of the flights from the US arrive in Paris. I know if you want to fly to Lyon, for example, the flights from the US touch down in Paris (mostly CDG) and then a shuttle takes you to Lyon. Paris is also the best location for rental cars or trains. Donerail
akeegan, If you are flying in from the US, you will undoubtedly fly into CDG or Orly and then transfer for a flight to another French city. There are excellent airports in Nice and Lyon, among others. I suspect all large cities in France have an airport.
We got an excellent rate to Nice right here on the France.com web site. We flew from LAX to Paris direct and then switched planes to Nice and picked up our leased Peugeot in Nice. It was very easy.
You will find excellent public transportation at all the airports if you aren’t leasing or renting a car.
Decide where you want to be in France and then search for the best rates. (Click on the blue and red France.com at the top of this page and then click on "Airlines" on the right side of your screen. It’s a great search engine.) Check several sites online and check several different times over a period of weeks (or months, if you can) to watch rates.
If your best rate is not where you want to be, you can take the train from that airport and pick up your car nearer to your destination or you can rent and see the countryside between. A lot depends on how much time you want to spend traveling.
Another way to save money is fly to London and take one of the new cheap airlines to whatever city in France you want to visit. There are lots of bargain flights to London from the US. It’s actually cheaper than the train although you do have to get from the airport into town when you arrive.
Good luck.
