Meet Frédéric Bazille, The Impressionist Painter Who Could Have Been

On May 1, 1870, Bazille’s Summer Scene (Bathers) got into the Paris Salon — the place painters wanted to be. Two months later, France declared war on Prussia; a month after that, Bazille joined the army. In November, he was killed in his first campaign,so less than a year after painting this, he’s dead.”

Frédéric Bazille painted for only seven years. His friends went on to create some of the most beloved artworks in the world, but Bazille never got to impressionism.
