La Chandeleur: the French and their crêpes

Remember the Nutella craze that took over France last week? On February 2nd, France celebrates La Chandeleur – a Christian tradition that has morphed into a crepe festival.

So while Americans celebrate Groundhog day on the same day, the French will be eating a lot of crepes.. with Nutella!

And if you intend to cook your own crepes to celebrate the French Candle mas, don’t forget that It’s recommended to toss the crêpe in the pan with your right hand while holding a piece of gold in your left – for good luck of course.

Another old tradition has seen people putting the first crêpe in a drawer or on top of a wardrobe to attract prosperity for the coming year.
