There is the time-honored method of learning it in school. Today there are all kinds of CD and DVD programs to help you learn. There is a company called Transparent Language that offers programs to learn nearly any language in the world. You might Google them and see what they offer.

If you just want rudimentary French, there is a cute program called LinguaFun French. It gives you basic vocabulary and grammar but is fine for travel.

I don’t know if it’s available in China but you could purchase it online from Amazon.com or a similar online store.
