I am accompanying my husband to a business meeting and will be staying in Divonne. However, I cannot find it on a map or any information. Web searches only show hotels.
If anyone can advise on where to go and what to see that would be great. Also an idea of location and/or map would be great
Thanks

Divonne-les-Bains is a cute ritzy town in the Alps, close to the Swiss border. It’s a station thermale (spa), famous for its casino and discreet millionaires wandering around. Chuck Berry played there last year, I wanted to go but couldn’t make it. It should pretty much look like a Palm Springs of the Alps.
You’ll find more at http://www.divonnelesbains.com/francais.htm . They don’t seem to have an English version of the website, which is rather weird for such a place. Hey, maybe it’s a good sign after all !

Divonne may overlook the Alps but it not actually in them. It is in the Jura a few miles west of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman in France). It isn’t too far from Geneva but is up in the mountains. Since it’s on the east side of the Jura, you probably will have a view of the Alps, and probably Lac Leman too (depending on the weather, of course).
If you’re into nature, it’s on the border of the Parc Naturel Regional du Haut Jura which is gorgeous. If you can travel around a bit, you might want to visit Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux, Switzerland and in France, Evian (of water fame) and take a bit of a drive to Lac Annecy which is stunning.
Try the Michelin web site for maps. We use the Michelin "France Tourist and Motoring Atlas" but you could easily use something more regional. Also, do check the web site suggested by crc95. It looks excellent.
Have a great trip.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply – your generosity is much appreciated.

helenpryor2: If you get the chance, visit the villages of Mont Pelerin and Chardonne just a few miles up the hills from Vevey. Gorgeous views of Vevey, Montreaux, and Lake Leman. And there are two absolutely great restaurants there: Chez Cherbec is one and I can’t remember the name of the other one. The area is totally quiet and peaceful and devoid of nite life. The wines (white) are spectacular and usually can only be found there. The downside is everything in Switzerland is expensive – and they don’t realize it. Donerail
It can’t be any more expensive than London!! . . . and Switzerland is much cleaner. Ah . . . lovely country.
