Greetings!
We will be in Paris the last week of December and realize that many things will likely be closed during at least part of that week. Any suggestions as to how to find out what will be open that week?
If all else fails, we could spend a day at Disney Paris (our two kids will be with us), especially if there isn’t much else open (e.g., Christmas Day). Disney California is open all that week, and I assume the same would be true for all of the Disney theme parks worldwide, but I’d like to verify that. The hours of operation and days open aren’t posted on the Disney Paris web site for the month of December.
Any additional ideas for that week would be appreciated!
Thanks

I suspect Christmas Day is the only time many things will be closed. You would have to check individual web sites for times and perhaps even e-mail them to check. I looked at the Versailles web site and it said open all year . . . EXCEPT for some French public holidays and a couple other provisi. They didn’t, however, give the dates of those holidays. Not too useful.
I was going to suggest Parc Asterix instead of EuroDisney just for the French experience but it’s not open in the winter. So much for that idea . . .
The Disneyland web site did say they were open 365 days a year so that might actually be a good idea. Do be sure you have dinner reservations for Christmas Day because that day would be the most likely to have multiple closures and you will get hungry. )
I don’t think you’ll have any problem finding things to do the rest of the time. If all else fails, visit the Marais. It’s principally the Jewish Quarter and will have lots of wonderful restaurants, cafes and bistros open and the shops should also be open since it’s a Monday. Be aware that some restaurants are closed on Mondays anyway.
In a large city, something is always open. You might consider a visit to the Cite de la Science in Parc de la Villette with your children. This is a huge interactive science park and there is a neat theater inside the giant Geode there. We also enjoyed the Cite de la Musique at the other end of the park (an easy stroll). It is a museum of music with interactive exhibits. Your kids might enjoy it more if they were at least 10 or older though.
The city parks will be open. Keep in mind that Paris is quite far north so days will be very short. The city is magical at night with all the lights so it shouldn’t be a problem, but things that need daylight need to be planned fairly early.
If you’ll tell us what you want to visit, we can give you web sites so you can check their schedules for that week. Other than that, my suggestion would be doing a Google or Yahoo search on each activity that interests you and seeing if they have schedules posted on their web sites.
Just walking in Paris is a really fun activity. Everything is so pretty and there are so many different things happening. There is a sculpture gallery in the open air along the Seine on the Left Bank east of Notre Dame. That and the Daniel Buren columns at the Palais Royal are always real kid pleasers. The kids like to jump on and off the columns and no one ever seems to mind.
Hope this is some help. Have a good trip.
The Eiffel Tower is open Christmas Day.
