Is there anyone out there who has camped while in France? Can you rent campers (RVs???) and just tour around the country?
My boyfriend did that with some family members while in Alaska, and it seems to be a very economical way to see as many sites as possible in one trip. They rented an RV near the airport, and then drove around with their hotel right in their rental car. Just a little FYI for anyone planning on visiting the states and want to make many destinations without booking a ton of hotels!

Comment On Camping in France?
We’ve done quite a bit of camping in France but we used a tent. We stuffed our tent into a duffle bag and took it with us. The campgrounds in France are really nice, large sites, good restaurants in the campground, clean facilities and very friendly people. (We did this going to Alaska too. We have a thing for tents.)
There is a book called "Camping and Caravanning France" that you can order from Amazon.com or Borders.com or probably any other bookstore.com and it gives you a list of campgrounds and their facilities and prices.
I’m not sure I’d want to drive a camper (they are called caravans in Europe) on the narrow roads in Europe. Going through a town would be a nightmare. On the other hand, their caravans are much smaller than American ones so it might be okay. I still would not want to try it.
Many of the campsites have mobile homes (trailers, RV’s whatever) that you can rent while there. You then move to the next campground and get another mobile there. It would be easier to deal with the driving because you would only have your car.
Lodging is so inexpensive in France that it’s more comfortable to stay in a logis or an inn rather than camp. You have 4 walls, a roof and your own nice bathroom for the price of most campgrounds. Consider it. We haven’t taken our tent since the first trip. We’re converts to the Logis de France.
