It is mainly this same French invention that gave them a slow start on the Internet. France Telecom, the government-controlled company which has the monopoly of the country’s telecommunication network, distributed the Minitel terminals into more than 7 million households. The Minitel offers an array of practical and useful services not available yet on the Internet. So, why would they switch??? Moreover, there are some who say that the Internet is yet another American imperialism tactic to annihilate the French culture, a favorite political theme these days.
