Agence France-Presse (AFP)
The AFP is one of the three largest news services in the world (along with its American counterpart Associated Press and the British Reuters). Founded in 1944 as the heir to Havas, which was established in 1835, Agence France-Presse is a news service with more than 2,500 customers all over the world. Each day it transmits some three million words in six languages (French, English, Spanish, German, Arabic and Portuguese and soon in Chinese) thanks to copy sent by bureaus or correspondents in 129 countries.

There are also photo news services; the three foremost in the world are Sygma, Gamma and Sipa, all of which are French.
In addition, the Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA), is a governemment agency in charge of managing and maintaining the French audiovisual TV archives.
