Helloeveryone, Ive just joined and would like some advice so I hope Ive got the correct thread. We are finaly about to move to France an I am now worrying about everything!. I have a og and two cats and the dog will accompany us most places we visit while we’re there. I am concerned about her being too hot and the best way to keep her cool. We’ll have air conditioning in the car of course but how do you go on when walking about. Are there areas we shouldnt take her? Does she need sun potection? So far as the cats are concerned – one is a couch potato so hopefully will be no trouble but the other is a rover and because our house is surrounded by fields, Im worried about snakes?. Also do any of you know the best way of transporting pets to France please. At the moment hubby is taking one dog and two cats on the ferry and then driving to Charente. Im flying!!!
Many thanks

Hi, Vee. I take it you are from England since your husband is taking the ferry. We’ve seen dogs and cats all over France in all sorts of weather and they all seemed to be fine. Keep in mind these animals live in Australia and Africa where it gets a lot hotter than anyplace in France.
Restaurants are incredibly dog friendly so when you stop for a coffee, ask for a little bowl of water for your dog. They will be happy to do this for you.
Do not ever for any reason leave any of your animals in your car with the windows closed but I expect you already know that. Best not to leave them in the car anyway.
We live in southern Calilfornia where temps exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit for weeks on end and the dogs and cats here don’t seem to have a problem. They slow down a lot, but don’t get sick. Animals seem to inherently know their own limitations.
As far as snakes, we haven’t seen any but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. Cats are pretty good about keeping their distance except for the occasional silly kitty who decides to bring a snake home as a gift. With luck your cat won’t do that "for" you. The snakes are in more danger than your cat, however! )
With all the other things you have to worry about, I think you can let this problem go. Just be sure the animals have water when it gets warm and they will be fine. We’ve seen dogs and cats in restaurants and museums (yes, cats!) so your pets will probably enjoy France as much as you. The French love dogs and cats and will make a fuss over yours. They will definitely be spoiled when you take them for outings.
Enjoy. )
